A superb effort from all the children this week to improve their times tables knowledge and speed of recall. All the children below were able to answer 30 random multiplication questions for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables in under 3 minutes. Some children were even able to answer one question a second!
This week we have been learning about the life cycles of insects and amphibians. We have our very own caterpillars which have just formed their chrysalises and are ready to undergo metamorphosis. Hopefully, they will emerge as butterflies next week! We also borrowed Year 4’s tadpoles and froglets for some sketching and close observation.
Our learning in science has also led us to research the famous naturalist, David Attenborough. Watching clips of his favourite moments from his groundbreaking documentaries gave us some fascinating facts about the blue whale (some of its blood vessels are so huge, a person could swim through them!). All good preparation for us writing his biography next week.
Year 5 training to be dodgeball champions with a little help from Blackburn Rovers! Last term our PE lessons were led by a team from Blackburn Rovers who helped the children develop their skills through a range of team sports. They also worked with the children to help them better understand the role of nutrition and a healthy diet for staying fit and well.
